MASTERING THE DIGITAL SLR

This workshop concentrates on the operation and settings of the Digital SLR. It combines intensive classroom instruction with shooting in the field. Bill and Michael will provide personal instruction throughout the day.

Attendees will learn about the power and versatility of the Digital SLR. There will be 2 shooting sessions in the Garden and prints will be made at the end of the day.

Topics scheduled for the day include:

  • Tour of menu items and camera setup.
  • Proper setup for shooting landscapes, widlife, portraits, sports and travel.
  • Use of flash, including wireless TTL.
  • Extending the limitations of the camera via blended exposures, high dynamic range imaging (HDR), panoramas and time lapse photography.

Registration fee includes breakfast, lunch and admission to the Garden.

Participants should bring a Digital SLR of their choice and may bring a laptop for image review but this is optional.

SHOOT EDIT PRINT:
CREATING GREAT DIGITAL IMAGES

This workshop combines classroom instruction with shooting in the field.  Participants will shoot in the Gardens, then download and prepare their images for printing.  Bill and Michael will provide personal instruction throughout the day. At the end of the class, the instructors will prepare an image from each student and create a beautiful print on fine art paper.

We'll take a holistic approach to making great pictures. We'll spend time talking about photographic aesthetics, as well as shooting techniques and digital photography workflow. Topics to be covered include image editing and printing. 
 
Participants should bring a digital camera of their choice (digital slr is preferred for best quality).  Participants should also bring a computer loaded with image editing software of their choice and a card reader or other method of transferring images. Participants can attend without their own computer but will miss out on many of the hands-on computer related activities.

Registration fee includes breakfast, lunch and admission to the Garden.

Prior to the class, participants will receive information on recommended equipment and software to bring.

Bill Durrence is a professional photographer doing travel and location oriented assignments.  He is also a photography instructor and consultant, and leads international photographic workshops and tours.  As an Associate with Blue Pixel, Bill is a featured instructor of the Nikon School.  Bill graduated with honors from the University of Georgia with a Bachelor's Degree in Journalism and a minor in Art/Photographic Design.  He has 40 years experience as a photographer shooting editorial, commercial, and personal assignments, and has been teaching photography for more than 30 years.



Michael A. Schwarz is an Atlanta-based freelance photojournalist and digital photography consultant. He is a three-time nominee for the Pulitzer Prize and a recipient of the Dag Hammarskjöld Award for Human Rights Advocacy Journalism, and he was chosen by Life magazine as one of the country's outstanding young photographers. A frequent lecturer on photography, Michael has completed more than 2,500 assignments for major national publications.  Michael has a BFA degree from Rochester Institute of Technology.  He is a Blue Pixel Certified Digital Photography Consultant and a featured instructor of the Nikon School.
