Bio
Michael A. Schwarz is an independent editorial, and corporate photographer based in Atlanta, Georgia. Over a 30-year career, Michael has completed more than 6,000 assignments for publications like USA Today, Fortune, The Chronicle of Higher Education, Sports Illustrated, Time, Newsweek, LIFE, National Geographic, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, National Geographic Traveler, Business Week and Forbes. His corporate clients have included The Home Depot, UPS, Nike, The Coca-Cola Company, Harvard University, Brown University and Georgia Tech.
In addition to maintaining a busy shooting schedule, Michael conducts photography workshops, does digital photography consulting and training and is a featured instructor of Nikon School.
Michael is a 3-time Pulitzer Prize nominee, has received numerous awards from the Pictures of the Year competition and was a winner of the Dag Hammarskjöld Award for Human Rights Advocacy Journalism. LIFE Magazine chose Michael as one of the ten best young photographers in the U.S. He collaborated with writer Ellen Spears on the book “The Newtown Story:One Community’s Fight for Environmental Justice.”, published in 1998.
Schwarz is a Baltimore native and a graduate of the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT). He has served on the Board of Directors of the Atlanta Photojournalism Seminar, the American Society of Media Photographers (ASMP) Atlanta Chapter and was a co-founder of Weddingbureau.com. Michael maintains memberships in Editorial Photographers (EP), National Press Photographers Association (NPPA), American Society of Media Photographers (ASMP), The Atlanta Press Club (APC) and the American Association of Individual Investors (AAII).
